Strawberries can be enjoyed in many ways
Peach and Strawberry Sangria
Serves 12
This recipe, from Summer Days & Balmy Nights (Ryland Peters & Small, 2012), makes enough for a party. Mix it up a bit, if you like – and use peach schnapps or raspberry-flavoured liqueur in place of strawberry-flavoured.
2 cups strawberries, hulled and sliced
2 fresh peaches, pitted and thinly sliced
2/3 cup crème de fraise, strawberry-flavoured liqueur
6 cups dry white wine
1 small cucumber, peeled, seeded and thinly sliced
Ice cubes
Clear sparkling lemonade or club soda
Borage flowers to garnish, optional
Place strawberries, peaches and orange slices in a large pitcher or jug with the strawberry-flavoured liqueur. Pour in the wine and chill 30 minutes. When ready to serve, add the cucumber and some ice and top up with lemonade or soda. Pour into glasses and garnish each with borage flowers, if using.

Grilled Flatiron Steaks with Tomatoes and Tapenade Recipe at Epicurious.com
yield: Makes 4 to 6 servings
An assertive wet rub gives these steaks a nice crust on the grill. And the spice from the meat pairs with the pungency of the tapenade to play deliciously against the tomatoes and watercress. (Bonus: The tapenade is great on fish, chicken, and, well, anything savory.)

Ann Romney, Michelle Obama face off in cookie contest - Bites

Ann Romney, left, and Michelle Obama will go head-to-head in a cookie recipe contest.
By Jillian Eugenios
Turns out there may be a way to accurately predict the outcome of the presidential race — and the proof is quite literally in the pudding. For the last five elections, Family Circle magazine has asked spouses of the candidates to share their favorite cookie recipes. Readers then do their patriotic duty: Bake, taste, vote. Only once has the cookie test not accurately predicted which leading lady has gone on to call the White House home.
The cookie-off first took place in 1992, when Hillary Clinton's oatmeal chocolate chip cookies went head-to-head with Barbara Bush's classic chocolate chip recipe. Clinton won, and she was back at it again in 1996. She stuck to her guns with her oatmeal chocolate chip recipe, taking on Elizabeth Dole’s pecan rolls. Clinton again had a winner.
Then, sweet-toothed voters baked up Tipper Gore's gingersnaps and Laura Bush’s Texas Governor’s Mansion Cowboy cookies and Teresa Heinz Kerry's pumpkin spice cookies. Since the contest began, more than 19 million readers have baked and taste-tested the recipes.

Fried Chickpea Polenta
yield: Makes 8 servings or more
Frigitterie, found all over Palermo, means things fried, and the selections are endless. Breaded eggplant, broccoli, artichokesall of the vegetables in season are coated with a flour paste (pastella) and find their way into a fryer. In Palermo, one of the undisputed specialties is panella, made of chickpea flour and cooked like polenta, chilled, and then cut into thick slices that are fried in olive oil. Fried panelle are eaten as is, or multiple slices are piled in a sesame bun and enjoyed as a big sandwich.
Panelle can make a great accompaniment to fish or meat, but everybody loves them passed around as an hors d'oeuvre. Convenient to prepare in advance, they can be cooked up in a big batch, left to cool in the sheet pan, then refrigerated for up to 3 days. You can cut out a few panelle and fry them for a snack or side dish whenever you want. If you're serving bite-sized panelle for a cocktail party, I suggest you fry all the pieces ahead of time and keep them warm in the oven before your guests arrive.

Healthiest Meal Ever: Food Researchers Create World's Healthiest Meal
Employees at UK-based Leatherhead Food Research, a marketing and research company for the food industry, were given a challenge by their boss: come up with a meal that incorporates the 222 health claims the company had determined were valid and scientifically based, from an original pool of 44,000.
Originally intended as an airline meal, CEO Dr. Paul Berryman came up with the idea flying back from a food conference. "I had spent three days talking about health claims and at a round table event I suggested that Leatherhead could make a product with all 222 claims, no problem!" he states in the company's press release. "It wasn’t that simple, but we did it within one week!"
Another chef, Gurpareet Bains, had previously created a meal he deemed the world's healthiest -- a curry that included "superfoods" like blueberries, goji berries and chicken. The meal could help fight carcinogenic cells, he told the Telegraph in 2009, and the ginger, chilli, turmeric and garlic contained within it boasted antibacterial and antiviral properties.
So what goes into the world's healthiest meal when scientists have a say? Read more:

Pineapple Fruit Bowls | The Pioneer Woman Cooks
I just realized something. Several of my recipes over the past month or so have been cold ones. What does it all mean?
Oh. I remember now. It’s summer!
This is actually less of a recipe and more of a fun way to serve a fruit salad to your family, at a luncheon, or at a summer barbecue. The “dressing” is simple, sweet, and lovely.
Grab a pineapple! Then say your goodbyes.

carrots
Carrots are brilliant – full of vitamins and extremely good for you. In the last year or so, we’ve been lucky enough to have seen lots of different varieties of carrots available in the shops – long, round, peculiar-shaped, and even some purple ones. My favourite ways of cooking carrots all serve 4 people – for each recipe you will need 500g of carrots, either left whole if they are baby ones, or sliced into small erratic pieces – nothing too perfect.

grilled asparagus with olive oil, lemon and parmesan
There are many different types of asparagus available these days – thick ones, thin ones, baby, green, wild, white and even absolutely huge ones! Apart from their visual appeal, the real difference between them is their taste. They range from firm and nutty to soft and silky. Here’s one of my favourite ways of cooking asparagus to serve as a side dish or starter.
You will need to wash 2 big handfuls or 800g of whichever kind of asparagus you’re using, with their woody ends snipped off.
